EAST SCHUYLER - John W. Treen age 77 of Watkins Roadpassed away on Monday morning December 15, 2008 in his home. He had the support and comfort of his loving family by his side.
He born on October 7, 1931 in the town of Augusta, son of the late Edward and Ruth Loomis Treen. John was raised and educated in Mohawk schools. On November 19, 1955 he was united in marriage with the former Rita Goodhines in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Frankfort. They made their home in East Herkimer until 1989 when they moved to East Schuyler.
For more than forty years he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Library Bureau in Herkimer, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of AARP and the National Rifle Association. In his leisure time he enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and spending time at the camp at Oxbow Lake. He also found much relaxation working on cars, weather it was his own car or a friends. John will always be remembered as a caring and helpful individual who was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his cherished grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Surviving are his beloved wife of fifty three years Rita, three sons, John Francis Treen and his wife Cathleen, Stephen Treen, Craig Treen and his wife Michele, five grandchildren, John Paul, Kyle, Rachael, Collin and Karli Treen, six brothers, Edward, Charles, Carl, Henry, Richard and Larry Treen, six sisters, Ruth Pileggi, Cora Mauro, Genevieve Dunckel, Elizabeth Hight, Helen Licari and Jane Treen, one sister-in-law Carolyn Goodhines, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Beulah Johnson and Edna Prosser.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor of St Francis deSales Church Herkimer will officiate. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friend on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm.
Johns family wishes to thank Dr. William Parker, nurse Jo, the entire staff and physicians at Faxton-St Lukes 3 West, Allen Calder, Wing with special mention to George Markwardt FNP and Johns many friends and family that were so supportive during his illness.
