Obituary

JohnBaker Van Allen, 92 of Richfield Springs, died on Saturday January 23, 2016 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. John was the son of William and Elizabeth Baker Van Allen. John served with the US Army Air Force during WW II in Africa and Italy. After his honorable discharge from the Army Air Force, he managed the Bruce Hall Corp. in Richfield Springs for 35 years until his retirement. John was a communicant of St. Josephs the Worker RC Church Richfield Springs where he served as a trustee. He was a past member and president of the Rotary Club, a past member of the Richfield Springs Library Board, served on the Richfield Springs School Board and was a member of the Local American Legion. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Catherine Smith Van Allen, a daughter Karen (Colin) Ingham of Okatie, SC, a son Tom (Dede) Van Allen of Camillus, NY, grandchildren, Allie, Matt and Chrissy Van Allen, several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by two sons, John and Gary and a sister Virginia Herbert. Calling hours in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00 am in St. Josephs the Worker RC Church, Richfield Springs.
