Obituary

ILION-Joseph S. Carlesimo, age 73, passed away after a long illness, on Friday evening, August 23, 2019, in Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. He was born on June 26, 1946, in Utica, son of the late Peter A. and Vita Sgroi Carlesimo. A lifelong area resident he was raised and educated in Utica and Frankfort. On October 9, 1971 he was united in marriage to the former Terry Popka in Saint Mary's RC Church, Frankfort. Mr. Carlesimo worked as a union machinist for Kelsey Hayes (Utica Corp) in Whitesboro, retiring in 2000. In his leisure time he enjoyed music. He was an avid fan of Elvis. Joe was known for his good singing voice and could play the guitar, keyboard and accordion by ear. He also enjoyed travel, antique cars, going to the casino, and shows about science or history. But to those who knew him he was a caring family man who was kind, generous and friendly. He was happiest when spending time with family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and family, especially his cherished grandchildren. He will be missed every day, but the family is secure in the knowledge that he is in Heaven. Surviving him are his loving wife of forty-seven years, Terry, a son, Joseph J. Carlesimo and his wife Colleen of New Hartford, one daughter, Anita Weimer and her husband Mark of Victor, one brother, Peter S. Carlesimo of New Hartford, Sydney, Alexander and Cecilia Weimer all of Victor, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
