Obituary

CLINTON-Joseph James Cullinan age 86 passed away peacefully on Sunday morning August 6, 2017 in the Katherine Luther Home. He was comforted with the support of his loving family. Joseph was born on April 23, 1931 in County Limerick, Ireland, son of the late John and Jane Reynolds Cullinan. He was raised in Ireland and graduated from Ireland Courtney Technical School. As a young man he served as a Merchant Marine for the British Navy. On January 1, 1988 he was united in marriage to the former Marion Elizabeth Jackson in Naperville,IL. They later settled in in Westbury, Long Island where he went to work for the Nassau County Police Force as a Hostler. For twenty-two years he trained and maintained the horses for which the Nassau County Police were proudly known. He also had trained racing horses at Eisenhower Race Track in Long Island. He retired in 1996. He and his wife then moved to Oneida and in 2009 settled in Clinton where in his leisure time he enjoyed a good round of golf and reading the New York Daily News cover to cover. Mr. Cullinan had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saint Helenas RC Church in Sherrill. To all who knew him he was a caring, hard-working and sincere man. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point but you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his devoted wife of twenty-nine years Marion, two sons, John Francis Hall and his wife Judith of Sanford, FL, Patrick Hall of Ilion, three daughters, Sally Kaye of Torrance, CA, Vicki Stevens and her husband Michael of Taberg, Beth Hall of AL, eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Holt, a granddaughter, Morgan Kaye, three brothers, Sean, Patrick and William, four sisters, Mary, Eileen, Ita and Josie. A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 pm in Middleville Cemetery with the Reverend William Mesmer of St. Helenas RC Church, Sherrill officiating.
