Obituary

FAIRBORN, OH-Joseph Peter Gilmartin Sr. age 78, formerly of Jordanville, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, September 23, 2021 in the Soin Medical Center, Beaver Creek, Ohio. He had the support and comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on January 16, 1943 in the Bronx, NY, son of the late of Edward F. and Henrietta Millheiser Gilmartin. Joe was raised and educated in New York. He first worked as a Maintance Mechanic for a color printing company and on June 17, 1977 he enlisted in the US Coast Guard. He served during the Vietnam War and received the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon wit "0" Device, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star and Good Conduct Award. He was Honorably Discharged on June 30, 1982 and then retired after twenty years of Active Federal Service. On March 20, 1982 he was united in marriage to the former Judith A. Geyda on Long Island, NY. They lived in Richfield Springs before moving to Jordanville. They shared a devoted union of twenty-eight years before Mrs. Gilmartin passed away on February 26, 2010. To those who knew him will never forget a kind, caring and patriotic man. He will be truly missed by his friends and family, especially his cherished grandchildren. Surviving are one son, Joseph P. Gilmartin Jr. and his wife Daniella of Fairborn, three daughters, Jessica Smith and her husband Donald of Richfield Springs, Debbie Clements and her husband Aaron of Herkimer, Jennifer Walsh and her husband Travis of Laurens, five grandchildren, Joseph P. Gilmartin III, Isabel Clements, Tyler Walsh, Julianna Walsh and Sammy Gilmartin. Besides his parents and wife Judith he was preceded in death by a son Daniel R. Gilmartin, a son, Daniel Gilmartinand a daughter Catherine Neria. The family will be present in the Fenner Funeral Home Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6:00 until 7:00 p. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
