West Edmeston - Joseph Homa, age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, in the VA Medical Center, Syracuse. He was born on November 7, 1928, in Schuyler, a son of the late Joseph and Pauline Grabowski Homa. He was raised and educated in West Winfield and Richfield Springs. A US Navy honorably discharged veteran he served from 1945 until 1947. At one time he was married to Virginia Seamon. For many years he worked as a machinist for UNIVAC, MDS and Hubbells. He was a member of the Crowley Barnum American Legion Post #25, Mohawk, and the Polish Home Club, Herkimer. Joseph was a man who enjoyed being outdoors, be it fishing, hunting. He will be remembered as a man who always stated his thoughts however one could sense a gentleness and true friendship when you were with him. Surviving are his children, Brenda Neale and her husband Clifford of Middleville, Gregory Homa of West Edmeston, Neal Homa and his companion Rita of Clinton, TN, Ronald Homa of Newport, sisters, and brothers; Emily Leonard of Utica, Lorraine Decker of Waterville, Sophie Wiswell and her husband William of Brookfield, Karen Bloomfield of Bourne, MA, Elaine Roman and her husband Ronald, Wanda Galusha and her husband Dean, David Homa and his wife Debra all of New York Mills, Robert Grabowski of Athens, thirteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Stephen Homa and two sisters, Joan Farda and Josephine Homa. Funeral service with military honors will be held on Wednesday at 12 noon. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the funeral service (from 10:00 am until noon.) Memorial donations may be made to the Veteran Medical Center, Syracuse. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
