ILION-Joseph Lloyd Lane age 66, passed away on Tuesday morning February 14, 2012 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica after an extended illness. He had the comfort of his loving familyat his side. He was born on May 27, 1945 in York, PA, son of the late Harlan and Myrtle Waughtel Lane. Joseph was raised in Red Lion, PA and was a graduate of Red Lion High School. He furthered his education at Bowman Technical School in Lancaster, PA. It was there where he became a Master Watchmaker and Jeweler. Mr. Lane had owned and operated his own Jewelry Store in Red Lion. As a master of his craft he had the distinction of being certified to work on Rolex Watches. Locally he had worked at Lennons-W.B. Wilcox Jewelers for seven years and Hannoush Jewelers in Sangertown Square for the past five years.
On September 11, 1999 he was united in marriage with the former Rena Faye Fenstermacher in the Zion Lutheran Church, New Hartford. They have made their home in Ilion since 2000 coming from Frankfort.
Mr. Lane had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church, Mohawk. In his leisure time he could be called genuine model railroad buff. Joe was a member of the Hudson Hollow Railroad Club. He was a collector of HO gauge model railroad trains which brought much enjoyment to all who got to see them.
Joe will always be remembered as a hard working and sincere man who found much satisfaction in doing for others. He was a good friend and will be greatly missed by his family, especially his four cherished grandchildren.
Surviving are his devoted wife Rena , two sons, Douglas J. Lane of Frederick, MD, Russell L. Lane of Hagerstown, MD, a daughter, Stephanie Mangett of Anderson, IN, one brother, John Lane, four grandchildren, Rachel, Brian and Heather Thompson and Ian Lane, several nieces , nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Anne Kronenwetter.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon in the Mohawk Reformed Church, 18 South Otsego Street; Mohawk. The Reverend Brian Engel, pastor will officiate. The family be present in the church to receive relatives and friends on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral service, from 11:00 until 12:00 noon. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. Envelopes will be available at the church service.
