Obituary

HERKIMER Joseph M. Nicolette, Jr., age 81, of Willis Ave, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2006 in Valley Health Services. He was born on November 19, 1924 in Frankfort, a son of the late Joseph M. and Rose Cacciatore Nicolette. He graduated from Frankfort High School and was a lifetime area resident. On February 22, 1943 he joined the U.S. Army. He proudly served with the 503rd Coast Artillery during World War II on the Aleutian Islands. He was honorably discharged on December 13, 1945. On July 2, 1949 he was united in marriage with Ruth Cancelino in Herkimer. She predeceased him on May 7, 1969. For over 20 years, he worked as a machinist for Chicago Pneumatic Company in Utica, retiring in 1987. On November 22, 1973 he married Charlotte Chase in the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer / Little Falls, and the Michael Pliseck VFW Post # 4915 of Herkimer. Joe was full of life, love and laughter. His sense of humor was refreshing to all who knew him. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golf, horse racing and the New York Yankees. As an avid card player, he enjoyed challenging his children, grandchildren and friends to any type of card game. Joe will always be remembered as a loving and caring person. He adored his family and was proud of their accomplishments. Many nieces and nephews have fond memories of Uncle Joe patiently teaching them to drive. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife of 33 years Charlotte, his three daughters, Joann Dickson and husband Stan of Little Falls, Linda Paul and husband Howard, Cathy Ainsworth and husband John, all of Herkimer; grandchildren Sean and Matt Ainsworth of Herkimer, Katie Dickson of Little Falls, Crystal Paul of San Francisco and Jason Paul of Herkimer; step-daughter Melody DePew and husband Michael of Fort Myers, FL; step-grandson Jeremy Jacobs and wife Traci of San Ramon, CA; brothers and sisters Rose Baldwin of Mohawk, Marion Pizer of Frankfort, Enos Nicolette and wife Lillian of Mohawk, Vincent Nicolette and John Nicolette, both of Frankfort, Madeline Stephenson and husband John of Ilion; sister-in-law Ann Nicolette of Ilion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and first wife Ruth, he was predeceased by a sister Judith Nicolette, brothers Angelo and Salvatore Nicolette, and a granddaughter Angela Ruth. The family will be present at Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street in Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Friday July 14 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer / Little Falls with the Reverend Wrightson Tongue, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
