HERKIMER - Joy Biando, 54, of Wires Avenue, passed away Tuesday night, Sept. 23, 2003, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born Nov. 19, 1948, in Herkimer, a daughter of Greta (Richter) Herringshaw and the late Frank Pavlot. A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Herkimer High School and Herkimer County Community College with an AAS in Human Services. For 11 years she was employed as a family advocate for Head Start in Ilion. She worked with diligence and pride and poured her love into everything she did. She retired in 2001, due to health complications. Joy had diversified interests; she could find peace and serenity working in her garden. She enjoyed the challenge of remodeling her home. Her hobbies also included crocheting and making silk floral arrangements. She was a spiritual person who will be remembered as a caring person. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Surviving are two sons, Peter Biando of Utica and Michael Biando of Syracuse; one daughter, Regina Biando-Johnson of Herkimer; her mother, Greta Herringshaw of East Herkimer; six brothers and sisters, Frank Pavlot of Marcy, Greta Rathbun of St. Johnsville, Nancy Janasauskas of West Hartford, Conn., Mark Pavlot of Pennsylvania, Wendy Herringshaw and Lori Miller, both of Little Falls, Todd Herringshaw of East Herkimer; one granddaughter, Maejean Dellabarcca of Rome; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandson, Joshua Biando on Oct. 28, 1996, and her stepfather, Vern "Ike" Herringshaw on May 16, 1987. A gathering for the celebration of Joy's life will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Elks Lodge 1493, Mary Street, Herkimer.
