Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Joyce T. Ehrmann age 82, passed away on Tuesday morning June 2, 2015 in Albany Medical Center. She was born on February 6, 1933 in Piercefield, NY daughter of the late Sandy Peter and Ruth Dagget LaVassaur. The day Joyce was born there was a very bad blizzard. The doctor got stuck in the snow and Joyce's dad had to go get him. What a way to start a life. Joyce was a Tupper Lake Lumberjack, graduating from Tupper Lake High School, class of 1951 where she played the violin, clarinet and was a majorette. She furthered her education at Albany Business College graduating in 1952. She had also received a Teaching Assistant Certificate from Herkimer County Community College. On June 5, 1954 she was united in marriage with George M. Ehrmann. Throughout her life she was involved in many organizations. She was employed by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, The Farmers Museum in Cooperstown, Ruby's Department Store in Richfield Springs and for twenty-nine years a full time Teachers Assistant in Richfield Springs Central School and her thirtieth year was per-diem. She was a member of the Richfield Springs Central School Faculty Association. For many years she taught reading, chaperoned various school events, was a cheerleading advisor and did the make-up for Hello Dolly and many other Richfield Springs Central School musicals. Joyce was a very good artist and took art lessons in Cooperstown. Mrs. Ehrmann had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker RC Church in Richfield Springs where she served on the Parish Council, the Catholic Women's Club and the Rosary Altar Society. Joyce had a true sense on community. She was a member of the Otsego Sailing Club, Richfield Springs Historical Association, The Adirondack Mountain Club and the Wild Center in Tupper Lake. Over the years she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, worked with the Girl Scouts, played cards in many local bridge clubs. She was a make-up artist with the Village Players, a member of the Cooperstown Ski Club, Cooperstown Ski Patrol Auxiliary and a great supporter of the Cooperstown Community Band and at one time a member of the Richfield Springs Lioness Club and a, Election Inspector. To all who knew her she was a wonderful wife, mother and friend who when needed would help out at the Raymond G. Ehrmann Prescription Pharmacy. We will all miss her unforgettable smile, her radiant beauty and her sincerity. She was a great lady and will be missed by many. Surviving are her beloved husband of nearly sixty years George, two sons, Gregory and Eric both retired Lieutenant Colonels from the military, Greg (USMC) and his wife Pamela, Eric (USA) and his wife Tamra, Greg and Pam's children, Christopher, Katie, Julie, Sarah and James, three nieces, Mary Dexter and husband Randy, Marsha Meilleur and son Luc, Monica Williams and husband Randy, a nephew Mark Peets and wife Lourdes. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Mahlon LaVassaur and sister, Arlene Peets. Calling hours for Mrs. Ehrmann will be on Friday (today) from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 am in St. Joseph the Worker RC Church, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Michael Guzik officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to The Richfield Springs Central School Educational Foundation, PO Box 1325, Richfield Springs, NY 1339. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Friends are invited to the Tally-Ho Restaurant for a repast at 12:45 pm. Calling Hours J.
