Obituary

COOPERSTOWN - Joyce Ann "Tootie" Spencer, 65, formerly of Center Street, passed away Friday afternoon at Otsego Manor, Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.She was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Jordanville, daughter of the late Curtis A. and Margaret Eckerson Pooler.A lifelong resident of Richfield Springs, she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. She furthered her education by going to Oneonta State Teachers College and graduating from Cobleskill State Teachers College, where she received a degree in teaching.She was married to James Richard Spencer in Richfield Springs. He preceded her in death in 1990.Mrs. Spencer had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs.In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing and camping. To her family, the warm aromas of her cooking and baking as well as her famous fudge will remain in their hearts and minds forever.A caring and hopeful person, "Tootie" was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her three grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.Surviving are a son, Ricky, and his wife, Brenda, Spencer of Morris; two daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Thomas Hovick of Richfield Springs and Deborah and Russ Farmer of Watertown, S.D.; one brother, David Pooler, and his wife, Judith, of Richfield Springs; three grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Starr of Richfield Springs, and Kaleigh Spencer of Morris; several nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. William Harkins, pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, will officiate.Interment in Springfield Center Cemetery will take place later this spring.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends two hours before the funeral service, 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday.Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Church of Christ Uniting Memorial Fund, the Activities Fund at Otsego Manor or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
