Obituary

HERKIMER - Julia Puchalski, 91, of 104 N. Washington St., formerly of Church Street, Richfield Springs, entered into eternal rest Monday morning, May 12, 2003, in Folts Homes, Herkimer. She was born May 29, 1911, in Williamsbridge, daughter of the late Frank and Stella Schilling Polchinski. Julia was raised in the Bronx, where she graduated from New York City Public Schools. On Aug. 16, 1930, she married John F. Puchalski in Saint Valentine's Church, Williamsbridge. They shared a loving union of 49 years until his passing in 1979. For 15 years, she was the bookkeeper for the General Tire Co. in New Rochelle, retiring in 1970. A resident of Richfield Springs since 1988, she came here from Red Hook.Julia had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring person who gloried in being blessed with 39 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Ann and Richard D. Owens of Richfield Springs and Margaret and Andrew Peternel of Milwaukee, Wis.; five sons and their wives, John F. and Mary Puchalski of the Bronx, Martin and Kay Puchalski of Lake Carmel, Thomas and Patricia Puchalski of Valhalla, Joseph and Marge Puchalski of Mount Vernon and Frank and Patricia Puchalski of the Bronx; three brothers and their wives, William and Ann Polchinski of Riverhead, Edward and Ida Polchinski and Robert and Florence Polchinski, all of Yonkers; 39 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Besides her parents and husband, John, a sister, Estelle Hasselberg, one brother, Frank and sister-in-law, Frances Polchinski preceded her in death.Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs, on Friday at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Terence Healy will officiate. Mrs. Puchalski will then be laid to rest in Saint Joseph's Cemetery.The family will be present to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.Expressions of sympathy may be made to Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, or the Alzheimer Unit of Folts Homes, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
