Obituary

MOHAWK -June E. Rankins, age 84, of Polly Miller Gulf Road, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon July 14, 2008 in the Masonic Care Community, Utica. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on April 18, 1924, in Herkimer, daughter of the late Leslie and Fannie Seney Miller. A lifelong area resident she was a graduate of Mohawk High Schooland the Utica School of Commerce. On August 21, 1948, she was united in marriage with Willis A. Rankins in Paines Hollow. They have resided in Mohawk ever since. Mrs. Rankins had a strong belief in God and was a charter member of The Valley Baptist Church in Schuyler. She was a member of the Paines Hollow Grange and the Central New York Goat Club. She enjoyed cutting grass and from 1985 to 1998 maintained the cemetery grounds at Mountain View Memorial gardens. To June, her family and home came first and foremost. In her leisure time she enjoyed knitting and bird watching. To her friends, cherished are the memories of cookies, warm from the oven in her home and the sharing of those baked goods with her church bible study group. Mrs. Rankins will always be remembered as a caring, helpful person, with a warm and unforgettable smile. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are her husband of fifty-nine years Bill, a son Donald Rankins and his wife Karen of Ilion, two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Kenneth Brown of Bovina Center, Marilyn and James Harter of Phoenix, AZ, one brother Harold Miller of Dolgeville, a sister-in-law, Betty Miller of Herkimer, eight grandchildren, Shawn and his wife Doris Rankins, Corri Rankins, Kevin and his wife Dawn Brown, Andrea and her husband Richie Clark, Megan and her husband Matthew George, Rachel and her husband Tony Fornaro, Lacey Harter and Ariel Harter, four great grandchildren, Andrew Rankins, Laura Clark, Jack Harter-Quigley and Griffin Fornaro, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Miller. Funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Gerald Scott, Pastor of the Valley Baptist Church, Schuyler will officiate. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association or the Valley Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Masonic Care Community for the compassion and care shown to June and family during her stay.
