MOHAWK-Karl Frank Morse age 88 passed away peacefully on Saturday evening December 23, 2017 in the Masonic Care Community, Utica. He had the support and comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on April 9, 1929 in Herkimer, son of the late Homer and Hazel Griffin Morse. Karl was raised and educated in Herkimer. On July 31, 1954 he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Brown in the Mohawk United Methodist Church. It was that year they moved to Mohawk where they have remained since. For thirty-one years Mr. Morse worked as heavy-equipment operator for the New York State Department of Transportation. He retired in 1986. Karl was a man with a true sense of community. He was a member of Herkimer Elks Lodge #1493 B.P.O. E., Olive Branch Lodge #40 Free and Accepted Masons and an exempt member of the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department. In his leisure time he had a strong love for the outdoors, playing golf, hunting and fishing. Karl will always be remembered as a kind and caring man with a good sense of humor. He will be sadly missed. He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-three years Barbara, three sons, Jeffery Morse and his wife Gloria of Taberg, Scott Morse of Mohawk, Craig Morse and his wife Kim of Ilion, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Joseph Morse. Calling hours for Mr. Morse will take place on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 7:00 pm in the funeral home with The Reverend Jill Stellman officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Ilion Masonic Temple Roof Maintenance Fund, St. Augustine Episcopal Church, Ilion or the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of Herkimer Lodge #1439 B.P.O.E. are asked to meet at the funeral home at 5:30 pm for ritualistic services. Members of Olive Branch Lodge #40 F&AM are asked to meet at the funeral home at 6:30 pm for ritualistic services. Members of Mohawk Exempt Firemen Association are asked to meet at the funeral home at 6:45pm for ritualist service.
