RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Katharine O. Johnson age 92 of US Highway # 20, passed away peacefully on Monday May 17, 2010 in Mary Imogene BassettHospital, Cooperstown.
She was born on June 21, 1917 in Mohawk, daughter of the late Henry and Josephine Oliver. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Mohawk and was a graduate of Mohawk High School where she was valedictorian of her class. On September 19, 1952 she was united in marriage with Elmer V. Johnson. Who preceded her in death in November of 1985.
Mrs. Johnson worked as a clerical worker for the Richfield Springs Central Schoolsystem for seventeen years, retiring in June of 1987.
She was a member of Evening Valley Star Chapter # 82 Order of the Eastern Star. She will always be remembered as gracious lady with a warm smile. She will greatly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Keith Johnson and his wife Susan, of Richfield Springs, a daughter, Janet Talbot and her husband David of West Winfield, two granddaughters, Angella Shipman and her fianc Brian Lynch, Melissa Johnson, four great grandchildren Ashley, Kyle, Gabrielle and Jazlyn, one brother-in-law, Walter Johnson, nieces and nephews and numerous close friends.
A funeral service from the Book of Common Prayer will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm in Saint JohnsEpiscopal Church Richfield Springs with the Reverend John Dixon Bartle, Rector officiating. Interment in New Forrest Cemetery,Utica will be at a later time and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Squad. Envelopes will be available at the church service.
