SPECULATOR - Katherine Eugena Gramlich Jean age 87 of Page Street entered into eternal rest on Wednesday morning February 18, 2004 in Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown.
She was born on April 11, 1916 in Little Falls, daughter of the late Frank and Lillian Paul Hess. She was raised and educated in Little Falls. On November 23, 1919 she married Joseph R. Gramlich in Saint Marys Church, Little Falls. A loving and devoted union of fifty-seven years Mr. Gramlich passed away on January 6, 1997.
Mrs. Gramlich had worked for the Felt Shoe Company in Little Falls and from 1954 until 1971 for Wickes and Greenman Clothing Store in Utica.
A longtime Utica resident she and her family spent many enjoyable summer vacations in Speculator and in 1971 she and her husband made their permanent residence there.
She had a strong belief in God and was a faithful member of Saint James Church, Speculator as well as the church Altar Society. Jean was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her grandchildren and great- grandson.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Francis Fran and Kathleen Gramlich of Speculator, James and Margaret Gramlich of Winter Springs, FL, six grandchildren, one great-grandson several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Joseph a brother Paul F. Hess preceded her in death in 1991.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 am in Saint James Church, Speculator. The Reverend Paul Kelly, Pastor will officiate. The family will be present in the church to receive relatives and friends on hour prior to the funeral mass (10:00 until 11:00 am.). Mrs. Gramlich will be laid to rest in Airdville Cemetery, Speculator later this spring. Expressions of Sympathy may be made to Saint James Church, Speculator; envelopes will be available at he church. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
