HERKIMER-Katherine Kolarik age 87 was called to the Lord on Wednesday morning July 13, 2011 in Folts Home.
She was born on December 23, 1923 in Little Falls, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Cubanak Ferjanic. A lifelong area resident, she was raised in Little Falls and was agraduate of Little Falls High School. On May 30, 1943 she was united in marriage with John Paul Kolarik in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer. Her husband John was a decorated World War II veteran. He preceded her in death in 1975. Katherine resided in East Herkimer on Piper Road for over fifty years before living with her daughter Judy on State Highway # 28 for eleven years.
For twenty-seven years Mrs. Kolarik was employed by the P & C Supermarket in Little Falls, retiring in 1986.
Katherine had a strong belief in God and was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer.
She loved the outdoors. All of her neighbors remember her taking her daily walks and working in her beautiful flower garden. She loved to travel and visit family. She did so extensively, traveling to Hong Kong, Romania, West Berlin, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Geneva, Switzerland just to mention a few. As a loving wife and parent she made home a very special place. Not having all the comforts of home as did many in earlier years, she taught her children how to do their laundry, iron and many other chores that are done with modern appliances today. To her children, cherished are those memories of the warm aromas coming from the kitchen of her cooking and baking, especially, the blueberry and lemon chiffon pies that were made from scratch.
To all who knew her, they will never forget a warm, caring and gracious lady who enjoyed doing for others and wanting nothing in return. She will be truly missed.
Surviving are one son, John Kolarik Jr. of Little Falls and his friend Nicole Trevin of Herkimer, two daughters, Judy Grande and her partner Phillip Markham of Herkimer, Linda OBrien and her husband Michael of Arlington, VA, three wonderful grandchildren, Daryl Grande and his wife Angie of Fort Wayne, NI, Catrina Griewahn and her husband Chip of Richmond Hill, GA, and Anneliese OBrien of Falls Church, VA also five great grandchildren, Olivia and Dominick Grande and Haylie, Sarah and Corben Griewahn, many nieces, nephews and a brother-in-law, Thomas Skandera.
