HERKIMER - Katherine Sokol, "Kay," age 81, of Steuben Street, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 22, 2006, in her home. She was born on April 16, 1925 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Michael and Anna Keblish Kuzenech. A lifelong Herkimer resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. Upon graduation, she worked for one year at Standard Furniture Company and then went on to the Albany School of Business where she graduated in 1943. That year she returned to Herkimer and went to work for the County of Herkimer as Supervisor of Employees. She retired in 1986 after 35 years of faithful service. On November 25, 1961 she was united in marriage with Paul Sokol in Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Herkimer. Kay had a close relationship with God and was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, East Herkimer. She was also a member of Saint Ann's Sisterhood, the Herkimer "R" Club, sang in the church choir, served on the "Bless the Heart and Home" cookbook committee and every Saturday for many years got the fresh flowers that were in the two vases on the Altar for Sunday Services. She had a strong sense of community and was a member of the Herkimer County Historical Society, the American Red Cross Mohawk Valley Chapter where she volunteered on the Blood Services Committee, a volunteer for Catholic Charities in Ilion and a member of AARP. Kay will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person. She filled the lives of her husband, family and friends with happiness and sweet feelings that will carry in our hearts forever. She will be truly missed. Surviving are her devoted husband of 44 years, Paul; her aunt, Vera Keblish of Herkimer; a sister-in-law, Martha Steciak of Ilion; and cousins, Steve and Joanne Keblish with their children, Stephen J., Todd, Catherine and Bradley Keblish, all of Herkimer, Nick and Margaret Keblish of Barneveld, David and Helene Keblish of Henrietta, Paul and Vera Keblish of Florida, Don and Sally Keblish of OK, Dick Quackenbush of Mohawk. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Nicholas Kuzenech in 1955; and a cousin, Dorothy Quackenbush. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Funeral service in Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church at 11:30 a.m. with the Very Reverend James Jadick officiating. Interment will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery, East Herkimer. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Parastas will be said on Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the Sts.
