FRANKFORT Katherine S. Weston, age 79, passed away peacefully on Monday morning July 30, 2012 at the Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse. She was born on February 19, 1933 in Herkimer a daughter of the late Adam and Lolita Vrooman Shaver. A lifelong area resident she graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1951. After graduation she went to work as a telephone operator with the New York Telephone company in Herkimer where she worked through all the mergers retiring from Verizon in 1982. Katherine was united in marriage to Ira C. Weston on September 11, 1954 in the Christ Episcopal Church in Herkimer. Theirs was a loving and devoted union of fifty-four years until his passing on July 12, 2010. Mrs. Weston found serenity and peace in her faithful devotion to God. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church Herkimer where she served on the church guild. She was also a member of the New York Telephone Pioneers. Her life revolved around her home, family and friends. To all who knew her they will remember her laughter and encouraging wisdom. She will be truly missed. Surviving are her loving daughter Brenda Weston of Ilion, 2 sisters, Marion Vincent of Utica, Barbara Collins of Chester, VA, nieces, nephews and cousins and lifelong friend Shirley Miller of Mohawk. Besides her parents and husband Ira, she was preceded in death be a daughter Stacey in 1983 and an infant brother. Funeral service with Holy Eucharist will be on Thursday at 10:00 am in Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer with the Very Reverend Paul C. Bailey, Rector officiating. Committal service will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends (today) Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Christ Episcopal Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
