HERKIMER - Kathleen (Kathy) E. Penree age 59 passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening October 16, 2022 in Albany Medical Center, Albany. She had the comfort and support of her loving family by her side. Kathy was born on January 10, 1963 in Albany, daughter of the late John and Kathleen Smith Flansburg. A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate and class Valedictorian of West Canada Valley High School, class of 1981. On June 25, 1987 she was united in marriage, to William A. Penree in Herkimer, NY. Mrs. Penree had a strong faith in God and had attended the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Middleville. She was the founder & owner of CNY Storm All-Stars located in Syracuse, NY, a business she maintained for 27 years. Kathy was a devoted member of the USASF Cheerleading & Dance federation and was currently serving as Board President. Her association with USASF afforded her the opportunity to travel around the country as a speaker and mentor, as well as develop friendships and connections worldwide. Kathy was also known for her strong sense of community. For the past five years she served on the Town of Herkimer Council. She was a board member for the Herkimer 9 Foundation, founder of Holidays in Herkimer, and a volunteer with the Herkimer Now Revitalization committee. She was al- ways ready to help while looking for nothing in return. She touched many lives and leaves a legacy that will live on forever. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving her are her loving husband of 35 years, William. Her daughter, Jennifer Penree of Liverpool, and her cherished grandson, her best buddy, Aiden Penree. Two brothers, Scott Flansburg of Herkimer, Randy Flansburg and his wife Christine of Pawleys Island, SC, one sister, Cindy Wiederholt and her husband Ronald of Bellbrook, OH, one step-brother, Mike Can- della of Indiana, two step-sisters, Debbie Jacquays and her husband James of Ilion, and Melissa Candella of Utica. As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a step-brother, Jeffrey Candella. Calling hours for Mrs. Penree will be on Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:00pm and 2:00 until 4:00pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will take placeimmediately after in the funeral home with the Reverend Joelle Faulks, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls officiating.
