Kathryn M. Massocco, age 83 of Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, February 4, 2016 in Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown. She had the comfort of her devoted husband by her side.
She was born on May 3, 1932 in Norwood, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Kathryn Swinberg Webster. She was raised and educated in Herkimer, graduating from Herkimer High School with the class of 1950. In 1951 the family moved to Mohawk where she has lived since. For many years she worked as a secretary in the Purchasing Department of UNIVAC until its closing in 1977. She then went to work at the Mohawk Municipal Commission for 17 years as an account clerk in the Electric and Water Department, retiring in 1994.
On September 16, 1995, she was united in marriage to Peter Massocco in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Herkimer where she was a long time member.
Kathy and Pete enjoyed their life together they shared an interest in NASCAR racing and their annual fall trips to Ogunquit Maine to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Kathryn was a caring person, with a big heart and gentle smile. Always eager to lend a helping hand she was a true friend and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her husband and best friend of 20 years, Pete, several nieces, nephews and many close friends. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Jack and a sister-in-law Ethel Stallock.
Funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 am in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ann M. Zimmerman, pastor officiating. Interment will take place later this spring in Mohawk Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc, 115 Court Street, Herkimer. Pete would like to thank the staff of Bassett Healthcare Center in Cooperstown for their compassion and care given to Kathy during here illness.
