ILION-Kristina Pollak age 87 of Prindle Apartments, formerly of Herkimer passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon September 29, 2007 in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
She was born on February 24, 1920 in Herkimer, daughter of the late John and Kristina Cadra Pollak. A lifelong area resident she was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School with the class of 1939. She maintained her residence in Herkimer until last year, moving to Ilion.
Kristina first worked for the Standard Desk Company in Herkimer until its closing. She then went to work for Munger's Department Store and continued with Howlands, Genung's in Herkimer and later for Steinbachs Department Store, Riverside Mall in Utica, retiring in 1987 after more than twenty years of continuous service.
She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer, Home Bureau and the Herkimer Senior Citizens. In her leisure time she found relaxation as an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed sewing for her family and making ceramics for all their special occasions.
To her many friends, she will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person with a warm smile and outgoing manner. To her family, cherished are the memories of the baking aromas they found in her home during the Christmas holiday season. She opened her home every Christmas eve to all of her family, carrying on a long tradition that was started by her parents. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are one sister, Sue Colburn of Ilion, a sister-in-law Marion Pollak of Herkimer, three nieces, Barbara Marquiese of Mohawk, Donna Wheat of Catskill, Patricia Colburn of Ilion, four nephews, Wayne Pollak of Sayre, PA, John Pollak of Santa Anna, CA, Daniel Deke Pollak of East Herkimer, James Colburn of Murietta, CA, several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brother John Pollak, her twin sister, Ann Hildebrandt and her niece, Karen Umber.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer with the Reverend Ann Zimmerman, Pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 3:00 until 6:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
