ILION - Lance R. Fryer, 47, of Rockwell Drive, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in Faxton Hospital, Utica, after a short illness. He was born Sept. 6, 1957, in Little Falls, son of Stanley E. and Doris L. Dygert Fryer. A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School and had attended Herkimer County Community College. For 20 years he worked in retail for Shecter's Men's Shop in Utica and more recently for LaSalle Laboratories in Little Falls. He has resided in Ilion since 1997.Lance had a strong belief in God and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer, where he had served on the altar for many years. He was a former member of the Herkimer Elks Lodge 1439.Lance was an avid sports fan and spent much of his leisure time bowling. All who knew him will remember his warm smile and his sense of humor. He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.He is survived by his loving mother, Doris Fryer-Wissick of Herkimer; two sisters and their husbands, D. Lynn and Jack Fitzer of Ilion and Barbara and David Conover of Pennsylvania; one stepbrother, two stepsisters and their children, five nieces, Tracy Casanova, Jackie Bray, Jill Fitzer, Jessica Arbuckle and Amanda Conover, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.A memorial service will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Paul Bailey, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer, will officiate. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m.Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the American Diabetes Association.
