Obituary

SCHUYLER LAKE - Lawrence A. "Hawkeye" Shaul (KC2AOP), 65, of State Highway 28, entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning, May 4, 2004, in his home. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Schuyler Lake, son of the late Jay and Louise Clarke Shaul. A lifelong Schuyler Lake resident, he was educated in both Schuyler Lake and Richfield Springs schools. In 1956, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served with the Military Police. He was honorably discharged in 1960, attaining the rank of specialist 4th class. For 23 years he worked as foreman for Mohawk Data Sciences in Herkimer, retiring in 1989.Larry had a strong sense of community and was a member of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department where he was currently serving as fire commissioner. A ham radio operator, he was a member of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, operating under the call letters KC2AOP. He was an avid NASCAR fan and at one time enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling.Larry was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. He lived his life to the fullest and treasured the many friendships he had made along the way.Surviving him are his close friend and companion, Sylvia Goyne of Frankfort; three sisters, Delores Cattelli and her husband Reno of Vallejo, Calif., Eleanor Evans of West Winfield and Josephine Burt and her husband Reinhardt of Richfield Springs; a foster brother, Ronald Colburn of Louisiana; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides his parents, a brother, Richard Shaul, who died in childhood, preceded him in death.Funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. Wallace Brown will officiate. Mr. Shaul will be laid to rest with military honors in the family plot at Schuyler Lake Cemetery.The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m.Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department or the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Peg and Ed Stickles, Willie and Ellen Wightman, Craig and Curt Wightman, Monica Munford and the Catskill Area Hospice for all the care and compassion shown to Larry.Members of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department as well as all other area fire departments are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. for ritualistic services
