ILION-Lawrence A. Wentworth age 75 of James Street passed away unexpectedly on Thursday afternoon December 13, 2012 in his home.
He was born on March 5, 1937 in Harmony, ME, son of the late Layman Bailey and Lula Belle Leighton Wentworth. Lawrence was raised and educated in Harmony. On April 13, 1957 he was united in marriage with the former Sandra Pierce in the Ilion Presbyterian Church. They shared a loving and devoted union of fifty-five years until her passing on April 21, 2012.
Through the years Mr. Wentworth worked for various companies in the area, Standard Furniture Company in Herkimer, Salada Tea Company and Ilion Lumber Company. His major working career was at the Remington Arms Company in Ilion where he was a Machine Operator. He retired in 2000 after 29 years of dedicated service.
He was a member of the Ilion United Methodist Church and former member of the Ilion Moose. In his leisure time he enjoyed, hunting, camping and bowling.
To all who knew him they will never forget a hard working family man. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving him are three sons and their wives, Lawrence A. Jr. and wife Virginia Wentworth, Michael and wife Holly Wentworth, Richard and wife Sandra Wentworth, two daughters and their husbands, Cathy Rouillier and husband Paul, Brenda Sabatino and husband Dominic all of Ilion, brothers and sisters, Louise Chaburne of Hartland, ME, Ernie and wife Lee Wentworth of Ninilchik, Alaska, Ella and husband Vinny Southall of Fiskdale, MA, Roberta Bernoit, of Alberta, AL, Marilyn Patterson and her husband Daniel of St. Johnsville, eighteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren , several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Beside his parents and wife Sandra he was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene McCaw.
The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home immediately after the calling hours at 7:00 p.m. The Reverend Robert Wollaber, Pastor of the Morning Star Ministries will officiate. Interment will be in Middleville Cemetery next spring.
