RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Leo F. Murphy age 77 of Lake Street passed away unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon January 7, 2007 in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. He was born on October 20, 1929 in Herkimer, son of the late William Patrick and Bertha M. Cole Murphy. Leo was raised in Mohawk and Richfield Springs and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. Mr. Murphy had lived in Syracuse and the Mohawk Valley before coming to Richfield Springs in 1965, where he has resided since. For the past fifteen years he has worked at the Fennimore Art and Farmers Museum, Cooperstown. Leo was a familiar face around Richfield Springs. He had a quiet way about him but you could sense his friendliness by his warm smile. He was an avid reader and enjoyed anything he could read about history. Many people in the Schuyler Lake area remember him when he supervised the Schuyler Lake Basketball Team. Being raised in a home with eight siblings they all knew that he loved each and everyone of them. To them he will always be remembered as a caring, loving and hopeful brother. He will be truly missed. Surviving him are a brother, Vincent and his wife Mary Murphy of Marcellus, two sisters, Evelyn and her husband Clyde Ballard of Cooperstown, Lorraine A. Jennings of Richfield Springs along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Ronald, Bernard, John, William and Lawrence Mike Murphy. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. Nancy Brown Parish Life Associate of St. Josephs Church, Richfield Springs will officiate. Interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery later this spring. There are no calling hours.
