Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Leo Alexander Zvirzdin age 81 passed away peacefully on Sunday morning February 22, 2015 in his home. He had the support and comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on March 14, 1933 in Richfield Springs, son of the late Alexander L. and Martha Peplinski Zvirzdin. Leo was raised and educated in Richfield Springs. He served with the US Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1954. On July 4, 1955 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Joyce Wilson and together they raised five children. For many years, Mr. Zvirzdin worked as an Agricultural Mechanic. He retired in 1995. Leo took much pride in his military service and was active in the Richfield Springs VFW where he had served as Commander and was a lifetime member of both the VFW and the Richfield Springs American Legion During his retirement he enjoyed many hobbies, especially working in his woodshop building furniture. He also built his own Ultralight Airplane and found much pleasure flying it. He was happiest when there were family gatherings outside next to his pond. To all who knew him they will never forget his warm friendly manner and his unforgettable smile. He will be truly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty-nine years Joyce, three sons and their wives, Russel and Karen Zvirzdin of New Berlin, Joseph and Catherine Zvirzdin of Richfield Springs, Terry and Debbie Zvirzdin of Roseboom, two daughters and their husbands, Joanne and Brian Ward of Okeechobee, FL, Brenda and Ronald Randall of Salisbury, one brother Bernie Zvirzdin and his wife Eloise of Port St. Lucie, FL, eighteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Zvirzdin, a grandson Jonathan Zvirzdin and a granddaughter Laurie Randall. Calling hours for Mr. Zvirzdin will be on Wednesday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will take place later this spring in Twilight Rest Cemetery, Monticello. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Calling Hours J.
