HERKIMER-Leon Becker age 95 passed away peacefully on Sunday morning April 16, 2023 in Valley Health Services, Inc. He was born on August 22, 1927 in Herkimer son of the late Harry and Juliet Nichols Becker. Leon was a lifelong Herkimer resident. He was educated in Herkimer High School. After high school he proudly answered the call of his country by joining the US Navy in World War Two. During that time he served aboard the USS Maddox and was honorably discharged in August of 1946. On October 6, 1950 he was united in marriage to the former Marion Ellis Gettle in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. They shared a loving and devoted union of sixty-two years until her passing on September 1, 2013. Leon had a strong belief in God and was a member of St Francis deSales Church in Herkimer. For thirty years he worked for the Niagara Mohawk Power Company. He retired in 1990 attaining the position of Foreman. Leon will always be remembered as a kind, helpful and caring man and will be sadly missed. Surviving him are a nephew Ronald Morse and his wife Margaret, three nieces, Susan Stukey and her husband Gary, Sharon Dingman and her husband Rob and Sandy Leonard, along with several great nieces and great nephews. Besides his parents Harry and Juliet Becker and his wife Marion he was preceded in death by a brother Quentin and his wife Janice Becker and sister, Cynthia and her husband Joseph Morse. A graveside funeral service will take place on Monday April 24th at 1:00 pm in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the charity of your choice.
