RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Leon F. Suhocki age 86 passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon September 2, 2010 in his home. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on April 27, 1924 on a farm near Jordanville, son of the late Frank and Tillie Kovolewski Suhocki. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of VanHornesville High School. A US Army veteran he served during the waning years of World War II. He was honorably discharged in July of 1947 and had attained the rank of Sergeant.
On May 12, 1946 he was united in marriage with the former Edith Snyder in West Palm Beach, FL who survives him. Edith is a resident of Folts Homes, Herkimer and Leon never stopped missing her at home, visiting her everyday until he could no longer do so.
Leons talent and love for fixing and building things, particularly with metals, served him very well during his thirty-nine years of service with Suburban Propane. He was well-known over a large geographic area including multiple counties and developed countless long-term friendships as a result.
He was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, the Richfield Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars and was Past Master of Richfield Springs Lodge # 482 Free and Accepted Masons.
In his leisure time he enjoyed playing golf, for many years with a village golf league, partnering with his son for several years. He also played in multiple Masonic tournaments in the area.
To all who knew him, he was probably best known for his sense of humor and love of life, as well as his devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides his wife of sixty-four years Edith are his son Larry and his wife Teresa Suhocki of Richfield Springs, a daughter, Sharon and her husband Tom Parslow of Rome. Leon and Edith had three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, John Suhocki, seven sisters, Harriet Schooley, Estelle Ricken, Violet Stone, Lottie Faderwick, Ann Martinez, Dorothy Rice and Betty Duceck.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will be this Saturday at 11:00 am in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Young will officiate.
The family would like to express their immense gratitude to the angels of Catskill Area Hospice, who allowed Leons final days to pass as comfortably and peacefully as possible. Special thanks go to Anne, Eileen, Pat and Allison, as well as Lucy on the phone, who were all of incredible help and comfort to Leon and his family. Also thanks to Dr. Jerry Sloan and his staff.
