Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Leonard N. Young, age 80, of Hugick Road, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning February 14, 2008, in Valley Health Services Inc., Herkimer. He was born on February 24, 1927 in East Springfield, son of the late William and Martha Skinion Young.A lifelong area resident he was a graduate ofSpringfield Center High School.He furthered his education at Cornell Universityuntil he was drafted into the USarmed forces during World War II.He served with the US Army Air Corp. in Japanand was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal in Japan.He was honorably discharged in September of 1947 attaining the rank of Corporal. Upon returning home from the war he lived in Cherry Valley. On April 9, 1950, he was united in marriage with the former Roberta E. Tyler in Westville. They shared a blessed union of over fifty-seven years. In 1958 they purchased a dairy farm in Richfield Springs.Together they owned and operated the Young Dairy Farm until their retirement in 1971. Leonard will always be remembered as a knowledgeable, hard working man, who took great pride in dairy farming.Any conversation with him was frank and to the point, but you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him.A friend to many he will be greatly missed. Surviving are his loving wife Roberta, one son; Duane and his wife Amy Young of Richfield Springs; six daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Al Taylor, Dawn and Rex Seamon, Eileen and Walt Yaworski all of Richfield Springs, Janet and Burt Banks of Jordanville, Nancy and Jim Cook of Oneida, Susan and Scott Sullenburger of Lakeland, FL; eighteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, one brother, Laverene Young of Cherry Valley; two sisters, Marjorie Buddle of Richfield Springs, Thelma Stocking of North Tonawanda, several nieces and nephews.Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Young and Laura Benjamin, two brothers, William and Kenneth Young. Funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.The Reverend Wrightson Tongue will officiate.Interment with military honors will be heldlater this spring inSpringfield Center Cemeteryat a time to be announced. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday two hours prior to the funeral service (9:00 until 11:00 am). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
