MOHAWK-Lewis W. Innes age 98 of Church Streetpassed away on Sunday Morning December 16, 2007 in Valley Health Services Inc., Herkimer.
He was born on December 9, 1909 in Frankfort, son of the late Wallace and Kate Lewis Innes. A lifelong Mohawk resident, he was a graduate of Mohawk High School. On June 1, 1940 he was united in marriage with the former Frances Jackson in the Mohawk United Methodist Church. A loving and devoted union of sixty-four years, Mrs. Innes preceded him in death on September 19, 2004.
For nineteen years Mr. Innes worked as a machine operator for the Bendix Corporation in Utica. He retired in 1971.
He had a strong belief in God and was a seventy year member of the Mohawk United Methodist Churchwhere he had served as a church trustee. He was also was a member of Mohawk Valley Lodge # 276 Free and Accepted Masons, the ODD Fellows and the Mohawk Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In his leisure time he enjoyed model railroading. He was a member of the Utica Model Railroad Club as well as the National Railroad Historic Association. He was quite proud of his elaborate collection of O gauge model trains and the model train layout that was housed in the basement of his home.
To all who knew him they will never forget a low key gentleman with a warm smile who enjoyed people as much as they enjoyed him. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are two sons, Alan L. Innes and his wife Mary of Perryville, MD, Ronald W. Innes of Mohawk, one granddaughter, Jennifer M. Innes of Maryland, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Frances he was predeceased by his brother Ross Innes and a sister Susan Harkins.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Frederick Jackson, brother-in-law of Mr. Innes and the Reverend Brian Engle, Pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church will officiate. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Members of Evening Star Valley Chapter #82 Order of the Easter Star will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 pm for ritualistic services.
