Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Lillian Uihlein-Schlimm, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, November 9, 2011 in her home. She had the comfort of knowing her family was at her bedside. She was born on December 6, 1921 in Flushing, a daughter of the late Louis and Isabella Early Uihlein. Raised and educated on Long Island she graduated from Hempstead High School in Long Island. On May 18, 1940 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Schlimm in the Village of Lake Success, Great Neck. Mr. Schlimm passed away on December 25, 1984. Coming from Long Island in 1967, she and her family settled in Little Falls where they owned and operated a dairy farm. Upon retiring from dairy farming they moved to Richfield Springs. For fifteen years she worked as an out-reach case worker for Otsego County Office of the Aging. Mrs. Schlimm was a devoted catholic. She attended Blessed Sacrament in Springfield Center where she was a held membership with Court Kateri Tekakwitha Chapter No. 2365 of the Catholic Daughter of the Americas. In later years she attended St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Richfield Springs. She enjoyed her home and was proud of her flower gardens. She will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted nana and caring friend. To her family she was their strength in good and sad times. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are her devoted daughters, Tricia Harrup and her husband Herb of Blue Point, LI, Cathy LHommedieu, of Richfield Springs, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother William Uihlein and his wife Bernice of Huntington, LI, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four brothers, Louis, Charles, Frank and Raymond and her son-in-law Paul LHommedieu. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 am in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy, pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Richfield Springs. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donation to the American Stroke Assoc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
