HERKIMER-Lloyd A. Singer age 80 of North Main Street passed away unexpectedly at Little Falls Hospital on Sunday morning January 4, 2009.
Lloyd was born in Newton, PA son of the late David Dewey and Lucy Alberta Young Singer. A lifelong Herkimer resident he was educated in Herkimer Public Schools. He had first worked as a farm hand at many of the local dairy farms throughout the MohawkValley and in later years he was a maintenance man at Utica Boiler in Utica. He retired in 1991.
Mr. Singer had a true love for the outdoors. His leisure time was devoted to hunting and fishing. To his many friends, he will always be remembered as a hard working, sincere gentleman with an unforgettable smile. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his companion of more than twenty years Donna Thurston, two brothers, William Singer Sr. and Theodore Hilts with his wife Maria all of Herkimer, six sisters, Charlotte Kupris of West Edmeston, Isabelle Williams of Cooperstown, Rena Ockdnicki of Ilion, Jane Slaymaker of DeLand, FL, Leona Bailey of Amsterdam, and Evelyn Whitford and her husband Calvin of West Edmeston, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 2:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. The Reverend Paul Bailey, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church Herkimer will officiate. Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery later this spring. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral service (1:00 until 2:00 pm). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Christ Episcopal Church, 300 North Main Street, Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
