HERKIMER-Lois Jean Upson, age 65, of Westwood Drive, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, April 21, 2011, in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. She had the peace and comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on June 16, 1945 in Little Falls, daughter of Elizabeth Ferguson Windecker of Herkimer and the late Robert John Sr. A lifelong area resident she was a graduate of both Dolgeville Central School and SUNY at Morrisville. On August 11, 1973 she was united in marriage with Ernest F. Upson in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls. They made their home in Schuyler until 2001 when they moved to Herkimer. For forty years she was employed as a Program Assistant for the United States Department of Agriculture working in this area until her retirement in 2003. Mrs. Upson had a strong belief in God and was active in the church life at the Mohawk Reformed Church. In her leisure time she enjoyed, sewing, reading, her Bible Study Group and going to her exercise class at the YWCA. With her husband, she enjoyed traveling and the many wonderful memories that they shared, especially the past six winters spent in Florida. She was a member of the Mohawk Valley Square Dance Club and the East Schuyler Grange. To all who knew her, Jean was highly respected for her unwavering work ethic.
