Obituary

FRANKFORT-Lois I. Wiegand, age 73, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 18, 2013, in Faxton-Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the peace and comfort ofher loving family at her side. She was born on June 30, 1940, in Herkimer, daughter of the late George F. and Hilda Chittenden Rowan. Lois was raised in Herkimer and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1958. She was first married to Jerry Sanderson who predeceased her in 1970. On September 1, 1972, she was united in marriage with Robert E. Wiegand in Saint Peter and Pauls Roman Catholic Church in Frankfort. They made their home in Frankfort where they owned and operated their family dairy farm. Mrs. Wiegand had at one time worked at the Library Bureau in Herkimer and more recently at Otsego Transit in Richfield Springs where she was the Transportation Coordinator. She retired in 2003. Lois was a member of Evening Valley Star Chapter # 82 Order of the Eastern Star in Ilion. To all who knew her, she was a devoted wife, mother grandmother and great grandmother who loved to cook. To her family, cherished are the memories of the aromas from those big breakfasts that came from Nonnies kitchen. She was happiest when she was doing for others while never expecting anything in return. In her leisure time she enjoyed Snowmobiling, Stock Car Racing, NASCAR and being with her many friends and family. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are her devoted husband of forty-two years Robert, two sons and their wives, Thomas and Tonya Jo Wiegand of Oswego, Timothy and Stephanie Wiegand of LasVegas, three daughters, Lynda Kuehnle and her husband David of Herkimer, Cheryl Wheelock and her husband John of Frankfort, Patricia Griffin of West Palm Beach, FL, two brothers, George E. Rowan, Robert Rowan and is wife Sylvia all of Herkimer, a special aunt Louise Chittenden of New Hartford, thirteen grandchildren, Matthew Kuehnle and his wife Katie, Kristen Kuehnle all of Herkimer, Ryan Wheelock of Frankfort, Nicole Griffiths and her husband Brad of Ilion, Jerry Wheelock of Frankfort, Emily Griffin, Nicholas Griffin, Quinn Griffin and Kate Griffin all of West Palm Beach, Charlise Wiegand, Shelby Wiegand both of Oswego, Allison Wiegand and Grace Wiegand both of Las Vegas, one great grandchild, Lane Griffiths and one more on the way, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was everyone's Nonnie! Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Jerry Sanderson and a son-in-law, Todd Griffin. Calling hours for Mrs. Wiegand will be on Saturday from 2:00 until 5:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer Funeral service will take place on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Deacon Sam Salamone will officiate. Interment will be in Litchfield Cemetery in the spring of 2014. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Doctor Butala and his staff for the care and compassion shown to Lois during her illness and a special thanks to dad for such great tender care to her. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Cedarville Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
