MOHAWK - Lorena M. Drury, 99, formerly of Fulton Street, passed away peacefully Wednesday night, Oct. 23, 2002, in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion.
She was born Feb. 21, 1903, in Lowville, a daughter of the late Clark and Harriett (Jones) Fineout. A lifelong area resident, she was educated in East Herkimer schools. On Aug. 19, 1921, she married Phillip B. Drury in Middleville. They shared a loving and devoted union of 58 years until his passing April 15, 1979. Prior to her retirement she had worked part-time at the Mohawk Homestead. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Mohawk.
Lorena is survived by one son, James D. and his wife Lynn Drury of Mohawk; four daughters, Louise Werner and her husband David of Rome, Josephine Gertenbach and her husband Donald of Sanford, N.C., Florence "Teenie" Steele and her husband Richard of Mohawk and Cordelia Richardson of San Antonio, Grangeville Idaho; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Phillip B. Drury; a daughter, Katherine Sheldon; two grandchildren, Gary Drury and John Gertenbach.
Funeral service will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, Mohawk with the Rev. Robert Witt, rector, officiating. Mrs. Drury will be laid to rest in Mohawk Cemetery.
The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The family would like to thank Lorena's neighbors and friends of Fulton Street, and the second floor staff of Mohawk Valley Nursing Home for their care, compassion and kindness.
Memorial donation may be made to the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home or the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
