RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Loretta Georgianna Buell, age 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening December 14, 2016 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. She had the comfort and support of her loving family at her side.
Loretta was born on October 14, 1932, in Cooperstown, daughter of the late Florence and Mabel Goodrich Kinney. She was raised in Schuyler Lake and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On October 22, 1950, she was united in marriage to Elmer Bud Buell in the West Exeter United Methodist Church. They shared a loving and devoted union of over fifty-three years until his passing on August 18, 2004. For over seven years Loretta was employed as a housekeeper at the Lake House Restaurant in Richfield Springs. She retired in 1990. Mrs. Buell had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Schuyler Lake Historical Society and the Senior Meal Site. In her leisure time she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, baking bread, pies and pineapple cookies. To those who knew her she was a caring, loving and helpful lady. She was always ready and willing to do for others, while looking for nothing in return. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by five sons, Clifford Buell and his wife Susan Lamb of Albany, GA, Daniel Buell and his wife Anna of New Berlin, Randall Buell and his wife Laurie of West Winfield, Christopher Buell of Rochester, Timothy Buell and his wife Kristine of Prescott, AZ, one daughter Peggy and her husband Donald Oldick Jr. of Richfield Springs, a brother, Richard Kinney and his wife Mary of Mount Vision, seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins and her cherished feline buddy Rosie. Besides her parents and husband Bud she was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Kinney and a sister, Alberta Bibik.
Calling hours for Mrs. Buell will be on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 pm in the funeral home with the Reverend Sharon Rankin-Burd, Pastor of the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Following the calling hours the family will be gathering at the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church for a celebration of her life.
Interment will be later next spring in Schuyler Lake Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Schuyler Lake United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
