RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Lorraine A. Jennings age 74 of County Highway # 22 passed away on Friday evening June 5, 2009 in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. She had the peace and comfort of her loving family at her side.
Lorraine was born on March18, 1935 in Mohawk, daughter of the late William Patrick and Bertha Mae Cole Murphy. A lifelong area resident she came to Richfield Springs with her family when she was five years old. She was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School with the class of 1954.
On September 26, 1956 she was united in marriage with Arnold R. Jennings in Saint Josephs Church Richfield Springs. They shared a devoted union of thirty-six years until his passing in 1992. Mrs. Jennings worked for the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home in Cooperstown as a Nurses Aide, retiring in 1997 after twenty-one years of loyal service.
She had a strong belief in God and was a member of Saint Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. In her leisure time she enjoyed watching sporting events on television especially her New York Jets football team and NASCAR racing.
Lorraine will always be remembered as a loving and caring person who placed her family above all else. To her many friends, they will miss her warm smile and friendly manner. She will be truly missed.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Lee Jennings of Niskayuna, a son, Matthew C. Jennings and his wife Kim of Richfield Springs, a sister, Evelyn Ballard and her husband Clyde of Cooperstown, one brother Vincent Murphy and his wife Mary of Marcellus, six grandchildren, Brian A. Kreis Jr. of Albany, Jennie Lee Kreis of Cooperstown, Monica A.C. Kreis of Niskayuna, Jessica L. Barron of Bradenton, FL, Christopher M. Jennings and Lacey A. Jennings both of Richfield Springs, one great grandson, Gavin Bradley Doyle of Bradenton, FL, several nieces and nephews, including a special niece Barbara A. Tongue and several cousins. Besides her parents and husband Arnold she was preceded in death by six brothers, Ronald, Bernard, John, William, Lawrence Mike and Leo Murphy.
A Mass of Christian will celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 am in Saint Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Terence Healy will officiate. Interment will follow in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, Cooperstown. The family will receive friends and relatives in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Otsego County Office of the Aging or the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
