Louis Edward Sprague's Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Louis Edward Sprague age 80 formerly of River Street passed away on Tuesday evening October 24, 2006 in Otsego Manor, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side. He was born on August 4, 1926 in Oneonta, son of the late William E. and Nellie E. Van Duesen Sprague. He was raised and educated in Oneonta and Cooperstown. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged in 1946 attaining the rank of Fireman First Class. On January 17, 1948 he was united in marriage with the former June Grace Brewer in Utica. They have made their home in Richfield Springs since 1950. Mr. Sprague was employed by UNIVAC for sixteen years and for nineteen years with the US Postal Service in Richfield Springs where he retired in 1988. He was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, a twenty-five year member of the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department and was a member and a Past Commander of the Richfield Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars. Lou will always be remembered as a man who was proud to serve his country as well as his community. He had a warm smile and a down to earth friendly manner. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and especially his family. Surviving him are his loving wife of fifty-eight years June, a son Richard and his wife Mary Sue True of Palmyra, three daughters and their husbands, Wendy and Warren Yohe of Mechanicsburg, PA, Jennifer and Mike West of Melbourne, FL, Deborah and Steve Seymour of Martinsburg, seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Doris Wilson, a brother William Judd Sprague and a sister Clara Bridger Robins. Funeral Service will be on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. Interment with full military honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Dialysis Unit at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown the Otsego Manor Landscaping Fund or the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
