Obituary

Richfield Springs - Lucille H. McMahon, age 89, of Richfield Springs, passed away unexpectedly on Friday August 21, 2015, at the Folts Home in Herkimer. She was born on November 7, 1925, in Herkimer, daughter of the late William and Irene (Beauchamp) McMahon. Lucille was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1943. She furthered her education at SUNY Oswego where she received her bachelor's degree in education and at Syracuse University where she received her master's degree in education. Lucille began her teaching career at Richfield Springs Central School and later taught sixth grade math at the Edgemont Union Free School District in Westchester County for over thirty years, retiring in 1981 to her home (Windcrest) she bought on Canadarago Lake in 1968. In 1985 she earned her real estate broker license and opened her own real estate firm, Windcrest Realty. She was a very successful broker, specializing in Canadarago Lake properties, for over twenty-five years. Lucille was a faithful member of Saint Joseph the Worker RC Church in Richfield Springs. She had a strong sense of community and was a member of the Richfield Area Chamber of Commerce, the Richfield Springs Garden Club, the Canadarago Lake Improvement Association and the Richfield Springs Lioness Club. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing cards and belonged to many local bridge clubs. She enjoyed cooking and prepared many wonderful meals for her family. Lucille will always be remembered for her loving, caring and helpful ways. Surviving are her nephew, James (Becky) Marzeski with whom Lucille resided, her brother-in-law, Joseph Marzeski, her nephew William Marzeski, and her nephew Thomas (Charlene) Marzeski. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister (and best friend), Virginia Marzeski, who passed away in March of this year. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 am at Saint Joseph the Worker RC Church, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Bernard Osai Ampong, pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery Richfield Springs. There are no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department or The Richfield Springs Emergency Squad. Envelopes will be available at the church service. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
