HERKIMER - Lyle George Lawton, 84, of Main Road, East Herkimer, passed away Sunday morning, April 8, 2001 in Folts Homes, Herkimer.
He was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Newport, son of the late Frederick and Blanche Lawton. A lifelong area resident, he graduated high school and went on to graduate from normal school. An honorably discharged U.S. Air Force veteran, he served our country during World War II. In his lifetime, Mr. Lawton had taught math, worked for Powers News Stand, was a ticket agent at Vernon Downs Raceway and had been a salesman for the Montgomery Ward Store. He had a strong belief in God and lived a Christian life. Surviving him are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethelyn Krenichyn in 1973 and Vivian Harris Phillips. Funeral service will take place Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Donald Battjes, pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church, will officiate. Interment in Newport Cemetery will be later this spring. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
