EAST HERKIMER-Lynn Griffith English age 95 of Main Road entered into eternal rest on Friday evening September 2, 2005 in Valley Health Services Inc.
He was born on January 20, 1910 in Herkimer, son of the late William Robert and May Lydia Jones English. A lifelong area resident he was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School with the class of 1927. On December 31, 1942 he entered the US Army. He served with the Signal Corps in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Tech Sergeant in November of 1945.
Mr. Englishs profession as well as his hobby was photography. He worked as a Sales Correspondent, Quality Control Officer and Photographer for the Cherry Burrell Company, Little Falls and UNIVAC in Ilion, retiring in 1973.
Lynn enjoyed singing and at one time sang with the Herkimer Reformed Church Choir. He was a fifty-year member of Herkimer Lodge # 423 Free & Accepted Masons, a sixty-year member of American Legion Post # 38 Herkimer, a member former of the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department and the Utica Camera Club. Over the years his joy was photography and was the recipient of many photography awards.
To all who knew Lynn they will remember his soft-spoken nature and his warm smile. He will be truly missed.
Surviving are his niece, Betty Miller and a niece by marriage Margaret English both of Herkimer, two great nieces, Connie Miller of Cortland, Julie Cring of Cooperstown, three great nephews, David Miller of Albuquerque, NM, Gary English of Ilion, Eric English of Herkimer, five great great nieces, Kerry Thomas, Emma Miller, Kaitlin, Nicole and Paige Cring, four great great nephews, Ryan, Christopher, Eric Jr. and Joshua English and two great-great-great nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his nephew James English and nephew by marriage Gordon Miller.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend David Kirkpatrick will officiate. Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery on Wednesday at 10:00 am. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the American Cancer Society, The Masonic Brotherhood Fund or the charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
