Richfield Springs - Mabel Bailey Jastremski, age 90, formerly of Richfield Springs and resident of The Meadows, Cooperstown, entered into eternal rest on Sunday night, June 13, 2004 at The Meadows.
She was born on December 13, 1913 in the Town of Richfield, daughter of the late Clarence and Martha Brownwick Bailey. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, she was educated in Richfield Springs schools. On September 30, 1931, she married Bernard Jastremski in Richfield Springs. A loving and devoted union of fifty-five years until Mr. Jastremski passed away in 1986.
Mabel had worked at the Knitting Mill in Richfield Springs and the Richfield Springs Central School. For many years, she and her husband owned and operated the Richfield Springs Bowling Alley until their retirement. She had also served on the Board of Elections. Mrs. Jastremski had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. A caring and hopeful person, she loved people. She enjoyed bowling and playing bingo. She was a friend to many and will be truly missed.
Surviving are two sons, Bernard and his wife Theresa Jastremski of Richfield Springs, Joseph Jastremski of Poughkeepsie; two daughters and their husbands, Frances and Raymond Myers of Springfield, IL, Eleanor and Robert Brady of Titusville, FL; a sister, Margaret Trask of Herkimer; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Bernard, a sister, Marion Hadsell, preceded her in death.
Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs, on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, at 10 a.m. The Reverend John Roson will officiate. Mrs. Jastremski will be laid to rest with her husband in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
