HERKIMER -Madaline E. Ahern age 90 of Henry Street entered into eternal rest on Saturday evening November 22, 2003 in Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford.
She was born on October 30, 1913 in Herkimer daughter of the late Joseph W. and Elizabeth M. Wilson Smith. A lifelong Herkimer resident she was educated in Saint Francis deSales grade school and Herkimer High School.
On August 6, 1936 she married Frederick F. Ahern in Saint Francis deSales Church Herkimer, a loving and devoted union of forty-three years until his passing on May 8, 1980. Mrs. Aherns life was about her family and home, she found great joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. She was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer its Rosary Society and was a member of the Columbianettes.
Madaline will always be remembered as a loving, caring and hopeful person who will live in our hearts forever.
Surviving are three sons, Robert F. and his wife Teresa Ahern of Denton, TX, John F. and his wife Michelle Ahern of East Herkimer, Joseph W. Ahern of Herkimer, two daughters and their husbands, Mary E. and Richard Hegeman of Herkimer, Carol A. and John Chase of Spring Hill, FL, fourteen grandchildren, Kathleen and her husband Evan Finch, Kelly and her husband Paul Canup all of Lakeland, FL, Thomas and his wife Terri Hegeman, Timothy and his wife Molly Hegeman all of Cary, NC, John Jay and his wife Kerry Chase of Oneonta, Michael and his wife Suzanne Chase of Bowdoin, ME, Fred and his wife Kim Chase of New Albany, MS, Nathaniel Chase of Paul Smiths, Andrew Chase of Spring Hill, Fl, Shannon and her husband Panos Roussos, Coleen Ahern all of Denton, TX, Sean and his wife Wendy Ahern of Deerfield Beach, FL, Patrick and Joel Ahern both of East Herkimer, twenty great grandchildren, Aaron, Bryan and Colin Finch, Madaline, Samantha and Benjamin Canup, Christy Deogny, Charles, Daniel, Andrew, and Joseph Hegeman, Nicholas, Kyle, Morgan, Jordan, Hunter, Abby and Gracie Chase, Alexandros and Margarita Roussos, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Besides her parents and husband Frederick she was preceded in death by one brother William and his wife Lucille Smith.
Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Wednesday at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in Saint Francis deSales Church Herkimer. The Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor will officiate. Mrs. Ahern will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Saint Francis deSales Regional School, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
