HERKIMER-Madaline Mead age 75 of 105 Protection Avenue passed away peacefully on Saturday evening September 21, 2013 in Folts Home, Herkimer.
She was born on January 3, 1938 in the town of Stark, daughter of the late Oliver and Beatrice (Bronner) Smith. Madaline was raised in Van Hornesville and was a graduate of Owen D. Young High School.
On September 19, 1963 she was united in marriage to Ralph Mead. They shared a loving and devoted union of forty two years until his passing on March 18, 2006. For a number of years they made their home in Flagler Beach, FL, before returning to Herkimer in 1979.
Mrs. Mead first worked as a machine operator for the Duofold Company in Mohawk and Ilion and later for the Housekeeping Department at Folts Home. She retired in the year 2000 after years of dedicated service.
Madaline had a strong belief in God and had attended Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Herkimer.
In her leisure time she enjoyed watching football, baseball and talking to her sister. To all who knew her she was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren. She will be truly missed.
Surviving her are one daughter, Jolene Baker and her husband Robert of Ilion, special relative Terry Harrig and her husband Richie of FL, a sister, Laura Hyney of Starkville, three grandchildren, Nicole Baker, Sheila Baker and Robert Baker all of Ilion. Besides her parents and husband Ralph Mead she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Guyer and her husband Clarence, a sister Marion Lawson and special relative Sherry Douglas.
Calling hours for Mrs. Mead will be on Thursday Sept. 26, from 1:00 until 3:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 3:00 pm with the Reverend Ann Zimmerman, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheral Church, Herkimer officiating. Interment will take place in the North Colunbia Church Cemetery at a time convenient to the family. The family wishes to extend their deep appreciation to Shirley Mead, Billy and Rosie, Doctors V. Sharma, Diago Alvarez and E. Young for the care and compassion shown to Madaline and her family during this difficult time.
