RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Madeline C. Laymon age 89 of Bronner Manor passed away on Thursday night December 6, 2007 in Mary ImogeneBassett Hospital,Cooperstown.
She was born on November 22, 1918 in Springfield Center, daughter of the late Thayer and Bertha McManus Congdon.A lifelong area resident she was raised in Richfield Springs where she graduated high school.
On January 2, 1937 she was united in marriage with William Laymon.A loving and devoted union of thirty-four years, Mr. Laymon preceded her in death on September 15, 1971.For many years she with her husband owned and operated their own dairy farm on State Route # 51 between New Lisbon and Morris.Mrs. Laymon moved back to Richfield Springs coming from Morris in 1976 where she has remained since.
Madeline had a true belief in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. She was also a member of the Richfield Springs Senior Citizens.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed Crafts, Knitting and Crocheting.She had a strong sense of community and was known for always staying on top of the news whether locally or world wide.To her family, cherished are the warm memories of the pleasant aromas that carried throughout her home whenever she was cooking or baking, especially during the holidays.She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
Surviving are a special nephew Donald Drake and his wife Susan of Cherry Valley, a brother-in-law, Robert Jump of Effort, PA, one sister-in-law Bertha Drake of Cooperstown along with several other nieces and nephews.Besides her parents and husband William she was predeceased by three brothers, Vaughn, Paul and Franklin Congdon and one sister Goldie Jump.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 3:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.The Reverend William Harkins, Pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs will officiate. Interment will take place later next spring in Springfield Center Cemetery. There are no calling hours.Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the charity of your choice.
