RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Margaret Z. Becker age 81 of State Highway # 28 passed away unexpectedly on Thursday May 17, 2012 in her home. She was born on March 21, 1931 in Brooklyn, daughter of the late John and Eleanor Durlacher Zimmer.Margaret was raised in Ridgewood, Brooklyn where she went to Saint Matthias Parochial School and graduated from Richmond Hill High School. On September 17, 1950 she was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Robert F. Becker. They made their home and raised their family in Elmont, NY.In 1991 they moved to Richfield Springs and have remained here since. For six years Mrs. Becker worked as Supervisor of the Finance Department at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.She retired in 1997. Mrs. Becker had a strong sense of community, while living on Long Island she was an active board member of television station WLIW, Channel 21 in Plainview, NY. She along with her husband Robert, were vetters and on air presenters at the Art and Antiques auctions that were broadcast by the station.A familiar face to everyone in Richfield Springs she was a member and Vice President of the Richfield Springs Historic Association. To all who knew her, she was a caring, loving and generous lady.She enjoyed doing for others, while looking for nothing in return. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-one years Robert, her four children, Robert Becker and his wife Elsie of Floral Park, Barbara Feldman and her husband Steven of Schenectady, Margaret E. Becker of Mohawk, Brendan J. Becker of Sunnyside, three sisters, Eleanor Struck of Breinigsville, PA, Joan Young and her husband Neil of Mineola, Ruth Gillard of Warwick, five grandchildren, Illona Feldman, Matthew Feldman, Michael Becker, Zachary Becker, Harrison Becker, seven great grandchildren, Emilyann Feldman, Bethany Feldman, Madeline Feldman, Ella Gualtieri, Evan Gualtieri, Ryan Becker, Madelyn Becker, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs to receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday at 11:00am in the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Historic Association.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
