HERKIMER - Margaret Eaker, age 94, of Dorf Street, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday afternoon November 7, 2006 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home.
She was born on February 18, 1912, in LaGrande, Oregon, daughter of the late Howard and Mary Wallace Belding. Margaret was raised in Portland, Oregon where she was educated until her family moved to Buffalo where she graduated from High School.
On September 8, 1930, she was united in marriage Dwight Eaker in Salisbury. Theirs was a loving union of sixty-three years until his passing on November 13, 1993. For sixteen years Mrs. Eaker had worked for the General Electric Company in Utica until 1963 when she went to work for Herkimer Tool and Model, retiring in 1971.
She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls.
In her leisure time Margaret enjoyed ceramics and found great joy in teaching ceramics to others. She loved her family and gloried in the presence of her two great-granddaughters. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her devoted daughter-in-law Freda Eaker of Herkimer, a grandson Matthew and his wife Vera Eaker of Addison, two great granddaughters, Jennifer Eaker of New York City, Stacy Eaker of Rochester, three nieces, Mary and her husband Jack Kapp of Underwood WA, Ruth Beidler, Esther Cornwell and her husband Ken all of Wenatchee, WA, two sister-in-laws, Reba Belding of AL and Stella Steele of Cold Brook. Besides her parents and husband Dwight she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Eaker in 2002, a brother Ralph Wallace Belding and sister Kathryn Olsen.
Funeral service will be on Monday November 13, 2006 at 10:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Wrightson Tongue, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer will officiate. Interment will follow in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
