UTICA Margaret Mae Thomas, 90, of Country Road, Utica passed away peacefully on Thursday May 25, 2017 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She has the comfort of her loving family by her side at the time of her passing. Margaret was born on May 1, 1927 in Mountain City, Tennessee a daughter of the late Robert and Edna Mae Dowell Farris. She was raised and educated in Damascus, Virginia, then later moved to Baltimore, Maryland. On May 3, 1950 she married Robert S. Thomas a blessed union of 50 years until his passing on January 18, 2000. In 1950 her and husband moved to Utica where she worked for the Boston Store as a clerk in their Credit Department, after the store closing she then became an assembler with Con Med retiring in 2000. For many who knew Margaret she lived life to the fullest, she enjoyed dancing, music and reading a good book. She enjoyed sitting on the front porch of her home, watching the world go by. Besides hosting family meals she loved being with her family. The best of all was when she would get dressed up and go out which she called Messing Around. Margaret had a strong belief in God and was a member West Schuyler Methodist Church. Surviving her are a daughter Donna Gilbert of Remsen, two grandchildren Eric Thomas of Utica and Tino Lopez of Herkimer, six great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a sister June Salmons of Avondale, PA. Besides her husband Robert she was preceded in death by a daughter Diane Thomas in 1969, two brothers Jim Dowel and Red Farris, a sister Dottie Ferris. Calling hours for Mrs. Thomas will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 6:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 6:00 pm. The Reverend Cindy Makarchuk pastor of the West Schuyler Methodist Church will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to West Schuyler Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
