RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Margaretta J. (Jacque) Empey, passed away on April 29th due to a stroke.She wasborn in Cornwall, NY on Nov 5, 1942 to Ruby P. and Msgt John J. Jones.She defined herself as a West Point brat and grew up at West Point and Highland Falls, NY.
She graduated from high school in Highland Falls where she was captain of the cheerleading squad and drum majorette in the marching band. She married her husband Kenneth in Monroe, NY on May 20, 1961, a union that lasted nearly 53 years.
Ken joined the Air Force that same year and they were initially stationed in Biloxi, Miss where their first 3 children were born. Their future travels took them to Japan, Delaware, Tehran, Iran (where their 4th child was born) and to Indiana and back to Delaware.
After settling in the Richfield Springs area, Jacque became director of the Jordanville Public Library and then went to the Mid York Library in Utica where she started as a receptionist and eventually became administrative assistant to the director.She obtained a bachelors degree from Empire State College at age 55 while working there. She then retired and went back to being director of the Jordanville Public Library where she stayed until 2013.
Jacque leaves behind her husband Ken, Richfield Springs, her son Kenneth III and his wife Rebecca of Chadwicks, daughter Donna Walsh and fianc Doug Bordinger of Richfield, daughter Mary and her husband Bruce Elderkin of New Hartford, and son Adam of Richfield.She also leaves 10 grandchildren, Renee, Danielle, Brian, Dylan, Justin, Sarah, Kayla, Hannah, David, Joshua, 2 great grandchildren, Camdyn and Maddox, a very special niece, Tammy Stevens, and three step grandchildren, Mark, Gregory, and Brandon Elderkin.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 4, from 1:00 until 4:00 pm at the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St, Richfield Springs. The funeral service will be the on Monday morning at 9:00 am at St Augustines Episcopal Church located at 78 Second St. Ilion.
